Phase 2 Word Builder Mat

Say it, Build it, Write it.

With this resource, designed for Phase 2 Phonics, simply take one of the colourful pictures, say what you see, for example cat, then take each letter in turn (c-a-t )to place in the ‘build it’ space.  Next, use a white board pen to write the word cat.

This resource scaffolds the child’s writing with little need for adult intervention.  The child can choose their own picture or decide to build their own word.  As an extra challenge, they can cover the word before attempting to write it!

This is a digital download.  For best results, print of all the pages and laminate them.  Next, cut out the Phase 2 graphemes and place them using velcro or blue tac in the order they are taught on the mat.  Keep the mat, all the graphemes and pictures in a handy zip-lock bag!
