This looks a very concise and effective resource and I can't wait to use it in the classroom. It has clear areas and covers everything you need for a reading observation! Thank you

This is a really useful observation checklist for anyone working with children in the Early Years. I like the different categories that you have designed which enable it to be very user friendly. Well done another great resource :)
Here are a few extra suggestions to further enhance:
Does the child give reasons for their choice of book? e.g. expressing interest, making links with other experiences and /or learning.
Can the child express likes/ dislikes/ favourite parts of the story being read? Would the child recommend this to a friend?
Does the child make links to the story being read with other similar texts/ plots?
Does the child know to read the left page before the right?
Can the child use the repetitive structure to read with pace?
Is the child using one to one to self correct?
Hope these are helpful suggestions.
Best wishes, Louise

The reading observation record is great to have to hand in your obs folder to make meaningful notes when children either self select looking at books or when the activity is adult lead. I have printed it for my September obs folder (useful for those initial insights into new intake) and chatted about it with my TA. Thankyou

Great little resource. Simple but effective. To the point and very simple to complete. Gives you a record of reading habits and progression. Will definitely use it in the classroom.
