Continuous Provision Challenge Cards – Key Stage 1

These Year 1 Continuous Provision Challenge Cards are designed to help children apply their learning, think more deeply and develop greater independence while exploring classroom provision.

The cards can be placed directly in provision areas so children can choose a challenge and get started straight away. Each prompt is practical, purposeful and written in child-friendly language, encouraging children to investigate, create, explain, solve problems and record their ideas.

The pack includes a strong range of English, maths and science challenges, alongside opportunities to explore foundation subjects such as history, geography, art, design and technology, computing and PSHE.

Challenges are included for a variety of provision areas, including construction, small world, writing, reading, maths, creative, investigation, role play and the outdoors. Many of the activities make meaningful links across more than one subject, helping children use their knowledge in different contexts.

The cards are ideal for reinforcing previously taught skills and knowledge, extending classroom topics and providing purposeful independent learning throughout the school day.

Simply print, laminate and place the cards in the appropriate provision areas for children to select and complete independently.

All cards are created by Mr Early Years and produced to the same high standards as our other classroom resources.

Suitable for Year 1 classrooms and continuous-provision settings within KS1.
